Happy Camper

Happy Camper School or how to spend a night outside in Antarctica. It's always fun to get out and it's summer and it's warm (about -25°C). So on Saturday December 11th we went a few miles beyond the station in a Pistenbully. It left us at the "campsite" a group of us used the week before. The idea is to sleep in a trench or snow cave and in case that is getting too cold or you don't finish it we set up some tents as well. At this time of the year the tent is much warmer than a cave, since the tent is warmed up a bit by the sun. The snow stays pretty cold year round, below 2 meters it's about - 50°C (-60 F).
